Put Down that Torch, Other Ways to Use Induction Heat

Tuesday January 3, 2023

While industries across the board may differ in products, engineering, manufacturing practices, and testing, there’s one consistent application that remains the same: induction heating.

Since its founding, Induction Innovations has been a vital part in changing the way people think about induction heat. Using the Inductor® and Mini-Ductor® lines to implement safety changes across the board for various applications from Agriculture to Marine.

Keep reading to learn about three slightly more niche induction heating applications and how they can benefit your business.

What is Induction Heating?

So, let’s start first by defining induction heating.

Induction heating is the process of heating electrically conductive materials through electromagnetic conduction. In layman’s terms, heat is transferred through a specific induction coil, creating an electromagnetic field within the coil.

Conductive material like steel, copper, or gold can be melted using this type of application. Despite this, however, the induction heating process is solely localized to one area, heating the inside of an object, rather than using an external heat source – no external contact required.

What are Induction Innovations Products Primarily Used for?

Induction Innovations products are very well known in the auto industry. From removing corroded nuts and bolts with the Mini-Ductor® series to being able to remove spray on bedliners with the Inductor® series.

Being able to free components without having to have the fear of collateral damage while being able to cut down the labor time on multiple automotive related applications.

Three Induction Heating Applications You May Not Know About

Apart from the traditional applications used by professionals in the automotive industry, here are a few different, yet commonly used applications for Induction Innovation’s products.

Agriculture Use

Induction heating for farmers in the agricultural industry is one of the best, most efficient applications as it’s both a fast and safe way to release ferrous metal parts.

When combined with the Mini-Ductor, metals from rust, corrosion, fertilizer, or thread lock compounds release in a matter of seconds, providing the user with a cleaner, easier, and safer way to handle equipment.

With an induction heater, turbo bolts and bearings from specific combines, sprayers, or tractors can be released without the additional need for an open flame.

Tractor Use

When operating a tractor, fixing certain pieces like center pin bolts, turbo bolts or adding materials like fertilizer, collateral damage can reap incredible negative effects, which is why it’s always recommended to use an induction heater.

An induction heater, like our Mini-Ductor Portable Induction Heater, can better assist with farm repair applications and help avoid any unnecessary injuries to the hand or even accidental fires.

Marine Use

As well as being an effective application resource for farming and agriculture, Induction Innovation’s products also works extremely well for the marine industry, with application uses including:

  • The pre-heating of valves for welding
  • Hardening of chain links, gears, and winches
  • The removal of cylinder head bolts that are corroded
  • Handling of thermal change on corroded nuts and bolts
  • And more!

Utilizing induction heating for marine use application will provide an additional level of safety, such as when working on head bolts or for bearing bolts inside the engine mounts. It also eliminates the usage of unnecessary products (i.e. PB Blaster).

General, All-Purpose Use

Let’s talk about general use for induction heating – more specifically, carbide-tipping.

When it comes to heating your materials, we recommend skipping the torch and opting for an induction heater. Why? Well, firstly both a furnace process and torching will cost you more money.

Instead, opt for carbine-tip process using an ALFe unit for your materials, which is more economic, safer, and gives you ultimate control of your heat.
