Friday February 18, 2022

aston martin customer testing alfe 35The ability to connect with customers and their applications is of great importance to us at Induction Innovations. It not only helps us understand what people are using induction heat for, but it also allows us to answer any questions they might have.

When a customer is unsure whether induction heat will work for them, we encourage them to send us a sample. This way, we can test it out to see if it works before making any big purchasing decisions. Once we receive a sample, we run a series of tests using our products and share the results with them!

These tests include video footage of us using our tools on their sample and a full written report of the results with any notes we think might be useful. And all of this is free of charge! The customer only needs to pay to ship the sample to us.

Customer Inquiry About Induction Heat Debonding Aluminum

One of the most recent samples that we received was from a customer who inquired about debonding aluminum frame pieces of his Aston Martin. He had a few components that he needed to replace and needed to debond the pieces to do that. The adhesive holding the aluminum together was DuPont Betamate.

Since we knew that the customer was working with aluminum, we went straight to our Inductor® ALFe® series to start. Aluminum requires a lot of power to free seized parts and adhesives bonded to metal. We went with the 3.5 to do the test, which is one of three units we offer that can heat aluminum. Our units range from 3500-watt output to 13,000k watts. For more on our units, see the ALFe comparison guide here.

We chose to use the ALFe 3.5, our 3500-watt unit. The 3.5 is 230v/16a/p1, has a 9-minute duty cycle, safety shut-off, LED light indicators, and is capable of heating automotive-grade aluminum and steel. The unit comes with three attachments including a Flow Concentrator, Glass Blaster attachment, and a Fast-Off Pad.

Testing Aluminum Frame Debonding with ALFe 3.5test one alfe 35 aston martin

First, we applied induction heat to two parts of an Aston Martin vehicle frame bonded together. The ALFe 3.5 was set to the highest power, heating the frame to approximately 300 degrees Fahrenheit. This test took less than two minutes to complete, and the parts came apart successfully!

In the second test, we had another bonded aluminum piece. Again, we set the ALFe 3.5 to the highest power, heating the frame to approximately 300 degrees Fahrenheit. This test took less than a minute to complete, and again, the parts debonded successfully.

When our tests were complete, we reported back to the customer by sending them the two test videos plus a Customer Application Report with more details. We suggested that the ALFe 3.5 would be the best product to suit his needs.

In this video, it was important for us to know exactly how hot we were getting the metal. We offer a few temperature-indicating accessories on our site for just this purpose. Check out the Tempil Infrared Thermometer and temperature indicating paints or markers: Tempilaq Advanced and Tempilstik. These tools help you verify the achievement of a specific temperature with accuracy.
